Lots to like in this, but best of all: "...when the earth rolls, life is pared back." I intend to use this frequently, and shamelessly unattributed.

Run with it, Uncle Ed.❤️

earthquakes shmearthquakes -- I love the description that it's like mama earth yawning and stretching. Still, those damn siren alerts will take more years off my/our lives than the EQ itself! lol editing is 'going to be a blast'. You are a rock star and you GOT THIS xoxox

TRUE on those sirens.😂 Thanks for always being here, Mer! xo

Glad to see back to writing Maria. Life can throw us some twists and turns. We just have to roll with it. I took a couple breaks this year, one planned and one not. Both ended up being beneficial in different ways. I don't think people would have even noticed my absence if I hadn't said something, ha!

That's the truth!😂 And actually, I find a lot of relief in that. I like to remind myself that this writing thing is a lifestyle, not a race. There are seasons for everything and I'm always learning.

This was beautifully said, Maria:

"Aren’t we all living on fault lines, preparing as best we can but never knowing when our lives might rumble and shift?"

Yes, indeed.

It also made me think about a moment I experienced last week. I spent a couple of mornings deep in planning content and setting up time blocks in my calendar, feeling very smug about taking control of things, and excited to jump into my first designated work block. Literally, as I was starting, our internet went down and the outage lasted the entire day. 😂 I really felt like it was the universe laughing at me, just in the way that you saw the earthquake as mother nature tapping you on the shoulder.

Oh my gosh, Michelle! Yes, that's exactly the kind of moment I mean!😂 What did you end up doing with the day instead?

Drove to my in laws to use their internet. 😂 I wish I had a better answer.

Love this post, Maria! I'm a native Californian who is terrified of earthquakes. And as you point out, life in general is all about riding out those jolts, trusting things will happen the way they happen, and then we'll figure out a way to get our footing again. Happy to hear you're getting your writing legs back! And so interested in learning more about your trip!!!

Thank you so much for reading, Wendy. I agree, the thought of earthquakes is pretty frightening. Sometimes—not always, for sure—but sometimes I find my fear is worse than the actual jolts. Staying present can be challenging for me, but I find it helps.

Yes, I will definitely write about my trip in a future post, or maybe a few. It delivered in so many ways, a bit like a pricey-but-oh-so-worth-it mocha.😉Which, by the way, I have a hankering for now!

Oh Maria, thank you! Reading your comment, and your reference to a mocha, brought a smile to my face! Thank you!
